Out of the blue, Devin Briar gets a press relations job offer from a Cabinet Secretary. When he arrives in Washington D.C. his life takes a turn toward the surreal. Promotions at work seem to be driven by innuendo as much as circumstance, and suddenly he's on the radar of the entire Executive Branch of the government. When the largest fraud in U.S. history is uncovered, Devin somehow finds himself at the center of a growing storm. What no one knows is Devin has a secret weapon in the form of his multiple-phobia challenged best friend Robin Denton. A Nobel Prize winning Physicist, she uses every tool at her disposal to save Devin from being ground into dust by the world around him. Unknown to Devin, a group of movers 'n shakers in the media and government have decided he's their guy. They want a new kind of person to convey what's going on in the world; someone with no political ax to grind, and who's so honest it borders on the naive. Devin Briar fits the mold perfectly. Through it all, Devin's aunt - a powerful U.S. Senator - tries to run interference as she seeks out the people who are behind manipulating her trouble prone nephew. Humor rules the day in this non - political, Washington D.C based story. The funny, bizarre friendship between Devin and Robin will crack you up from start to finish. Individually, each of them don't stand much of a chance in their whirlwind worlds. Together, they are a force of nature no one could have envision...

Devin Briar Volume 1 Douglas Morrison 9781478383970 Books

The author used the line in the book, when one character was describing the main character Devin Briar, saying "It is you who we never see". Well I thought it was so appropriate, I gave it a slight tweak to use to describe this type of book.

I find the vast majority of fiction books are broken into two camps, either comedy or serious. With the vast majority of them easily falling into the serious camp. I've always felt that maybe subliminally the author's by picking a serious subject are trying to show the world that they are therefore a serious author. Well Douglas Morrison thankfully blows that concept clear out of the water. He effortlessly spins a political thriller set in DC, yet with a healthy sprinkle of humor throughout to keep it real. I found myself, while riveted to the edge of my seat edge, just as likely to fall on the floor with laughter. I read 2-3 books a month for years now, and I can not remember bursting out with laughter like I did during this read, about 3 to 4 times. I actually would think things like, I know what you mean, or that's what I would have said. I was truly on the "same page" with the author and I truly believe it is because of just that, that the characters and his writing style are so easy to relate too and keep you turning the pages.

Well I only hope that some day there will be three camps of writers; the serious, the comedic and the ones who write like Douglas Morrison that blend both. At the end of this book, hell half way through actually, you wanted more of the characters and this author, thank god this is only volume 1, because I can hardly wait for volume 2! Do yourself a favor and experience this rare blend of wit and humor, before the next volume appears! Go buy Devin Briar, NOT your typical book. Thank god.

Devin Briar Volume 1 Douglas Morrison 9781478383970 Books Reviews

Nice insider view of Washington DC without getting any on you. Devin proves that the good guy can win with a little (a lot of) help from his friends. Funny, yet serious, at the same time. Feed your mind. Read it!
Getting into this book was so easy due to the characters chemistry and the attention grasping plot line! This book is beyond clever and I would highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates humor and excitement!
I haven't met a more lovable smart-ass protagonist since Hawkeye Pierce or Bugs Bunny! DEVIN BRIAR's witty wisecracking and his kooky friendship with Robin make it a great read. It's amusing to see the jams he gets into and the clever ways he manages to land "jelly side up"! I heard there is a Book 2 coming out-- Bring it on! I can only wonder what that rascal Devin will be up to next!
Douglas Morrison is a smashing success with this novel. I can't wait for Volume 2. A must read. Will have you laughing one moment and contemplating the meaning of life the next. What are you waiting for? Order the book already!
A cute story with more fantasy than reality, but a nice story none the less. The editing of this book is quite bad.
I bought this book because I some-what know the author and I like to support those who deserve a chance. Douglas definitely deserves more than a chance and I hope this "novel" finds its way into your hands... Now I'm not one to just buy a book, and before I bought the book, I knew that this was not my favorite genre... However, I am very glad to say that it shocked me how much I actually enjoyed this read!!! It went fast. And when I say fast, I mean that I couldn't put it down!! I usually leave my book at work to read on lunch or my downtime, but with this book, I actually took it home and read it before going to bed, and even there reluctantly closed it for the next day.

Devin Briar is exactly the type of person you wish our government was made of Honest, smart, loyal, and confident if only just a tiny bit naive. I got lost in this story and followed Devin as if he were my own brother. My heart-rate raced when he got into messy situations and then exhaled when he luckily got out of them... It's a fast paced book with a disaster waiting to happen around every corner. I definitely suggest this book to anyone and everyone no matter what type of genre you're into. So don't wait, put this book on your shelf and in your hands ASAP! You won't regret it!
